Why use LIDAR? The utilization of LIDAR sensor devices during the Iraq war has generated a proliferation of LIDAR source data that has not been fully tapped by simulation applications until now. The benefits of using LIDAR data is that it can be highly detailed and very current. The challenges of using LIDAR data are primarily managing the extreme data density and rectifying significant spatial errors between LIDAR scans. Watch a video of LIDAR Fusion in action. Rapid and Reliable Under a NAVAIR SBIR, CG2 undertook implementation of a fully automated technique for extraction of terrain, man-made, and natural objects from multiple viewpoint LIDAR data. The result is LIDAR Fusion DBGS, an automated tool to convert LIDAR source data into OpenFlight visual databases with minimal user interaction. Unlike other LIDAR processing tools, LIDAR DBGS can work with low-altitude or ground collected LIDAR data, as well as overhead data. This means that in addition to roof top elevations, all the details collected on the sides of buildings are preserved and rendered exactly as they occur in the real world. This capability is unique to LIDAR Fusion DBGS. LIDAR Fusion DBGS can derive a 3D virtual database from a series of LIDAR scans and from multiple overlapping LIDAR scans from multiple perspectives. This LIDAR Sensor Fusion feature can generate the most complete and accurate 3D representation possible with LIDAR source data. |
